Formstack Documents
There is no direct connector to Formstack Documents. Two routes work: through Zapier, which needs no code, or by pointing a webhook straight at a document’s merge URL, which needs the payload reshaped first.
If you are choosing a document tool rather than already committed to this one, DragonDocs does the same job with a direct connection and no bridge.
Through Zapier — recommended
Make a Zap triggered by Webhooks by Zapier → Catch Hook
Copy the URL Zapier gives you.
Add a FormDragon webhook to that URL
Settings → Webhooks → Add webhook. Tick submission.status_changed if
documents should only be made for approved records, or submission.created
for every submission. Send test event so Zapier learns the fields.
Filter to the form and status you mean
A Zapier Filter step: data › form_id equals your form, and — if you
chose status changes — data › new_status equals approved.
Add the Formstack Documents action
Choose Create Document, pick the document, and map its merge fields from
data › data › <field key>. Choice fields arrive as stored values; if the
document should show the label, add a Formatter step or use the label column
where the merge field expects it.
Directly by webhook
Formstack Documents accepts a POST to a document’s merge URL with the merge
fields as top-level JSON. A FormDragon webhook sends the answers nested
under data.data, so a direct connection needs something in between to
flatten the payload — a small function, or Zapier’s Webhooks action doing the
reshaping. In practice that is the Zapier route above with one extra step.
What to know either way
- Merge fields match on field key, not label. Name them to match, or map them in the Zap.
- A webhook fires for every form; always filter on
data.form_id. - Repeatable sections arrive as a list. Formstack Documents can loop a list in a table if the merge field is set up for it.
