The form builder
Open any form from Forms and choose Edit. The builder has three panels.

Left — field types
Grouped as Basic, Date & Time, Choice, Media, Location, and Advanced. Click one to add it at the bottom of the form. The full list, with what each type stores, is in the field type reference.
Middle — the form
Fields in the order people will see them. Drag the handle on the left of a field to reorder. Each field shows:
- its type as a badge,
- Required in red when it is,
- its label, which people read,
- its key underneath, which scripts, exports and integrations use.
The copy icon duplicates a field with its settings. The bin deletes it — and deleting a field removes its answers from every existing record, with no undo. See Changing a form that is live before doing that on a form people are using.
Right — properties
Click a field and its properties appear. What is offered depends on the type, but every field has:
| Property | What it does |
|---|---|
| Label | What people see on the form. |
| Field key | The durable name. Follows the label while the field is new; see Field keys. |
| Description | A line of help shown under the label. |
| Required | Refuses submission without an answer. |
| Read-only | Shown and stored, but cannot be typed in. The home for a calculated value. |
| Hidden | Not shown at all, but still carries its value into the record. |
Read-only and hidden are different: one is shown and locked, the other is not shown.
Type-specific properties — min and max on a number, the option list on a dropdown, the source form on a Record Lookup — appear below those.
Form settings
With nothing selected, the right panel shows the form’s own settings:
- Requires review — records wait in the review queue for a decision rather than being complete on submission. See Approvals.
- Allow use as a record source — lets Record Lookup fields on other forms pick from this form’s records. Off by default. Without it, a Record Lookup pointing here has nothing to offer.
- Email notifications — who is told when a record arrives, and rules for when.
Preview, Save, Publish
Preview opens the form in a phone-sized frame. It is the web renderer at phone size, not the native app, so it is right for checking layout and wrong for checking anything about offline behaviour.
Save stores your changes. Publish makes the form available to collect on. A form can be saved many times before it is published, and edited after.
