Calculated fields and formulas
A Calculated field works out its value from a formula — no JavaScript needed. Field keys go in braces.
{reading_end} - {reading_start}Arithmetic (+ - * /), brackets, and these functions:
| Function | Meaning |
|---|---|
SUM(a, b, c) | add up |
AVG(a, b, c) | average |
MIN(a, b) / MAX(a, b) | smallest / largest |
ROUND(n, places) | round |
ABS(n) | remove the sign |
Totals across a repeatable section
The row functions take {section.field} and work across every row:
| Function | Meaning |
|---|---|
ROWSUM({entries.hours}) | total of a column |
ROWAVG({entries.hours}) | average of a column |
ROWCOUNT({entries}) | how many rows |
ROWMIN({entries.hours}) / ROWMAX({entries.hours}) | smallest / largest in a column |
Timecards uses ROWSUM({entries.hours}) for Total hours, marked
read-only so the total cannot be typed over.
Formula or script?
A formula is enough for arithmetic over the form’s own fields. Reach for a
value script
when you need anything else — text, dates, conditions, user(), or logic
across rows that the row functions do not cover.
A field has either a formula or a value script, not both.
